| Unlike Caucasians, many Asians have wide alar and flared nostril. The ideal shape of nose wing is about 1/5 of facial width and nostril length is 2/3 of nose with symmetrical triangle shape. Several alar base and nostril reduction techniques are individually selected according to their shape. Nose wing reduction procedure is usually performed at the same time of augmentation rhinoplasty to enhance the pleasing nose.

| SURGICAL PROCEDURE |

| There are two common techniques for nose wing reduction or alar plasty, inner and outer cut. The inner cut of alar base is mostly aimed to narrow the flared nostril. Meanwhile, the outer cut is aimed to reduce the big alar wing and to narrow the width of alar base. Sometime both are done together. Occasionally, alar suspension string is used to hold the new alar position. |

| Nose wing surgery is a minor operation that takes only one hour under local anesthesia. Swelling subsides in 5-7 days. The excision scar is less visible after 1-3 months. |
